Merit Badge Counselors (MBC) - are required to be approved by the District Advancement Committee. ALL MBC for the Orion District are required to complete the "Merit Badge Counselor Information Sheet" and a "Adult Leader's Application", indicating "42" in the Position Description Box. Please note that MBC status should be updated annually, just like your Unit Recharter. On the Information Sheet please CLEARLY PRINT all information specified identifying the Merit Badge(s) you will be a Counselor. Also, please provide your e-mail address, Unit affiliation(s), and whether you wish to work with your Unit only or other Units in the Orion District. Please place a note identifying that it is OK to publish information identifying you as an MBC.

I would like to have Units identify the Merit Badge(s) that they will be presenting to their Unit and recommend and encourage the Unit to invite Scouts from other Units in the Orion District to participate with your Unit.

Eagle Projects

Eagle Projects reviews will be conducted at Roundtable.

Eagle Scout rank requirement 5 has been reworded. To support that change, a new Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook has been created. Through Dec. 31, 2011, Scouts have a choice to use either the new workbook or the one It is replacing.  Scouts whose Eagle Scout service project has already been approved by the council or district under the Former wording of requirement 5 – and using the former workbook – should continue with the former workbook. If their Project has not yet been approved by the council or district, they may elect to use the revised requirement 5 and the new workbook. Starting Jan. 1, 2012, Eagle Scout candidates – unless they have already submitted a plan for approval by the council or district under the former requirement – will be expected to fulfill the revised service project requirement 5 using the new workbook.

New Eagle Project form is available at:

There is a new Eagle Scout Service Project Award. See http://www.samhoustonbsa.org/welcome/eagle-scout-association-houston/eagle-scout-project-award-2012 for more information.
