March 20, 2010 Training

COURSE: Cub Scout Leader Specific

Cub Scouting incorporates the three modules: Intro to Cub Scouting, How We Have Fun, and Leader Specific Training.

Time: Check-in at 8:30 a.m. / Training begins promptly at 9:00 a.m.

Other Information: Bring your “Leaders Manual” for the program you will attend.

COURSE: Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Specific Leader Training

Description: Basic training for all new Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, and Varsity leaders. Designed to orient the new leader to basic troop and team operations.

Time: Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Training begins promptly at 9:00 a.m.

Cost: $5.00 (does not include lunch)

COURSE: BALOO  Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (all day)

Description: includes the aims and purposes of Cub Scout camping, planninga pack overnighter, resources needed, health and safety, the event program, and cooking.  Required course for the event leader of a pack overnighter

Time: Registration begins at 8:30a.m.  Training begins promptly at 9:00a.m.

Cost: $ .   (does include lunch) TBA

If you have specific training needs or need classroom sessions brought to your unit, contact Jeanine Holloway.

Online Training
To take online training, you need to click on http://myscouting.scouting.org. If you do not have an account, you will need to create one using your member number (on your BSA membership card) and indicating that you are in Sam Houston Area Council (#576). If you are a new leader, contact Joel Rice to get your member number. Once you log in, you can click on the training tab.

The following classes are available online:

  • This Is Scouting – new online course replaces New Leader Essentials. If you have previously completed NLE, you are not required to complete the new course.
  • Youth Protection Training (YPT) – a reminder that YPT is required for a leader to be considered trained. Please make sure you and all your unit’s leaders are currently trained in YPT. YPT training is valid for two years.
  • Weather Hazards – one leader in your unit must complete Weather Hazards in order to receive a tour permit.
