Lone Star College - Tomball

Merit Badge University is an opportunity for Boy Scouts to work on Merit Badges that they have an interest in for advancement. Scouts may sign up for merit badges as schedules allow. Registration will be on a first come, first serve basis. Scouts are asked to wear their 'Class A' uniforms. Lunch and a patch are included with registration. 



Registration closes on February 11. Fee of $8.00 must be received by Feb. 11th, 2010.  Checks should be sent to SHAC c/o Orion District Merit Badge University 2010, P.O. Box 924528, Houston, TX 77292 Attn: Mr. Joel Rice.
Checks should be made payable to 'SHAC Account 1-6801-542-20'. In memo portion of check please write son's name and Orion District MBU 2010.

Some classes may have a small additional charge for materials.Many Merit Badges can be completed on that day, while some may have some pre-work, additional meeting, or individual work to be done. Additionally, some merit badges may have prerequisites.

For each class, you should bring:
  1. Blue Card signed by Scoutmaster
  2. Pencil or pen
  3. Paper
  4. Merit Badge booklet

Second part will be on Sunday, February 21. See additional info.
Citizenship in the Nation 3 hrs

Read MB booklet before class. A separate field trip will be scheduled to complete the merit badge.
Communications 2 hrs

Complete requirement 7 and bring to class; bring items needed for requirement 6. Will not complete requirements 5 and 8.
Crime Prevention 2 hrs

Done together with Fingerprinting, so will need two signed blue cards
Disabilities Awareness 2 hrs


Electricity 2 hrs
First Class or above
Bring floor plan of home showing lights, outlets, switches, and which breaker protects each one
Electronics
2 hrs


Emergency Preparedness 3 hrs
Completed First Aid MB
Bring emergency pack (or photograph showing all of the components) for requirement 8c. Requirement 9a can be done before or after class (download checklist). Req. 2c must be done after class.
Fingerprinting 2 hrs

Done together with Crime Prevention, so will need two signed blue cards
First Aid 6 hrs
First Class or above
Bring homemade first aid kit to class
Geology 3 hrs

Bring small notebook, compass, and magnifying glass.
Leatherwork 3 hrs

Additional $10 materials fee.Bring MB book. Follow up meeting will be required to complete the Merit Badge.
Medicine 3 hrs


Nuclear Science 3 hrs
First Class or above AND age 14+
Bring merit badge book, read pages 6-35 and be prepared to discuss. Class participation and test are required.
Oceanography 3 hrs

Read MB book prior to class.
Photography 2 hrs

Will need to complete 4a and 4b outside of class. Bring camera/lens.
Plumbing 2 hrs


Public Health 2 hrs


Pulp and Paper 1 hr


Safety 1 hr

Complete safety checklist for requirement 2 (download checklist). For requirement 6, correct a deficiency found when doing checklist.
Skating 2 hrs

Bring helmet plus roller blades, roller skates, or skateboard
